JUNETEENTH
To pride and celebrate ourselves on this day does not come with ease, it comes with solace. Who's to say that although we are grateful for the endeavors and efforts of our nation today, we are still not filled with angst of how quickly things can dissolve tomorrow. In the midst of disarray within our nation and its governments, we’ve been able to rid ourselves of turmoil and embrace the chance for reconstruction, both of ourselves and of our country.
Today is Juneteenth.
We celebrate three years of this day being widely recognized across the nation, and we celebrate over 400 years of the strength and resilience of African-Amercians. While the world has continued to move faster than anticipated, we can still feel frozen in time. Till this day, history still replays itself on our television screens, and without knowing, we have become charged with anguish, desensitized to what is happening and overly focused on what can.
We can, as a nation, focus on what lies ahead. We can, as African-Americans, deconstruct our ways of healing, and inspire opportunities for more virtuous healing. Rhythm, power, love and the eternal vein of a historically redemptive spirit are our essential guides. To pride and celebrate ourselves on this day does not come with ease, it comes with solace.
